Members of the Sharif family and leaders of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) met former premier in Kot Lakhpat Jail on Thursday and discussed various matters including the country's political and economic situation. PML-N leaders Maryam Nawaz and other members of the Sharif family including Capt Safdar (retd), Junaid Safdar and Hamza Shahbaz Sharif met Nawaz Sharif in jail. Maryam led the PML-N workers who shouted slogans of "love you Nawaz Sharif".

Members of the Sharif family remained with Nawaz Sharif for about one and half hour and also had lunch together. The PML-N leaders including former PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Maryam Aurangzeb, Ayaz Sadiq and other leaders also met the former PM. Nawaz was allotted inmate number 4470 after being shifted to the Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore. His legal team has challenged the accountability court's verdict in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) which will take up the case next week.

On December 24, Sharif was sentenced to seven years in prison after being convicted in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills corruption reference. The accountability court imposed Rs 3.47 billion (USD 25 million) fine on the former prime minister for failing to provide money trail, besides seizure of his assets of Al-Azizia and Hill Metal property.
